Many people also find it helpful to talk to an osteopath about ways of keeping active and mobile, preventing common problems such as falls, or managing conditions such as osteoarthritis, rheumatic pain and osteoporosis.

9 Elms Osteopath clinic London Infants & Children

Infants & Children

Osteopaths are qualified to treat people of all ages, including babies. They use a range of techniques including physical manipulation, stretching and massage, and other gentle techniques such as cranial. Cranial techniques are safe, gentle, and non-manipulative. They are often used when treating young children and newborn infants. Very gentle osteopathic techniques can help to release and balance areas of physical tension, helping to soothe and relax as well as promoting freer movement where the muscles have been tight. Children, like adults, can be affected by general joint and muscle issues, which is one of the reasons people visit an osteopath. Parents will also take their children to visit an osteopath for a variety of other health reasons that may benefit from osteopathic care. Children’s requirements differ depending on the stage of their development. As they grow from infants, toddlers, children to teenagers, your osteopath will consider your child’s individual needs, age and stage of development, and adapt their advice and treatment accordingly.

Persistant Pain Management

Osteopathy, Mindfulness and Acceptance-based Programme (OsteoMAP) is a psychologically-informed self-management course for people with persistent pain lasting more than six months. OsteoMAP is an approach that provides various techniques, knowledge, comfort, and encouragement to individuals experiencing discomfort and whose hopes, dreams, and overall well-being have been impacted.

The course is a six to twelve weeks program that helps explore the relationship with pain and how it affects daily activities and movement.

With the help of your trained Osteopath, you will explore why you are still experiencing discomfort and learn how to recognise what is good for you from what you should avoid. This approach's main aim is not to cure or control pain or other symptoms as the primary aim. The focus, instead, is to help you acquire effective behaviour patterns guided by what you hold is important, your goals, and your values.
